Five characteristics of our approach

At a glance

What this covers
A target approach to moving selected teeth
Before you decide
Your treatment plan depends on your teeth and gums.
  1. Targeted movement

We aim for a target approach, moving only the teeth that need to move. This simplifies treatment, shortens it, and reduces the side effects of unwanted tooth movement. How much time is saved varies from case to case.

  2. Treatment without extraction

We do not extract teeth without good reason. Where possible we move teeth backwards and treat without extraction. Working with the natural order in this way tends to hold its result well over the years that follow.

  3. A clear movement plan

We are honest about the limits of how far teeth can move, and we move them to a detailed plan set out at the very beginning of treatment.

  4. Supporting techniques

Techniques such as corticotomy, which encourage teeth to move, mean that older patients can also achieve good results.

  5. Selective bracket placement

Because brackets are placed selectively, orthodontic treatment remains possible where gum health is poor, and there are fewer bonded surfaces to clean around. Decay still has to be managed by brushing and regular check-ups, with or without an appliance.
